Scaffolding is not rented as a finished tower. You rent components and assemble the configuration your job actually needs, which is why it is by far the most cost-effective way to work at height for more than a day. A single frame section rents for $20 a day — roughly one seventh the cost of a scissor lift — and if the work is stationary, that difference adds up fast.
A basic working setup is: two frame sections (they face each other and are held apart by cross braces), two walkboards to span between them, and either base plates for a fixed setup on firm ground or casters if you want to roll the tower along a wall. Leveling jacks go between the frame and the ground when the surface is not flat — which, on most real job sites, it is not. Add a second tier of frames on top of the first and you are working at roughly 10 to 11 feet.

Baker Scaffold (3' x 6')

This is the interior finish tool — drywall, taping, texture, ceiling paint, trim, crown molding, cabinet installs and light fixtures. Far safer and far faster than working off a ladder for hours.
Setting Up Scaffolding Safely
Most scaffolding accidents come from three causes: an unstable base, a missing plank, and rolling a tower with someone on it. Work through this list every time:
- Set the base first. Base plates go on firm, level ground — mudsills under the plates on soil. Use leveling jacks for grade and check the frame with a level before you climb. Never shim with brick, block or scrap lumber.
- Fully plank every working level. Walkboards should cover the platform with no gaps and be secured against uplift. A partly planked deck is how people step into empty space.
- Height-to-base ratio. A freestanding tower generally should not exceed about four times its narrowest base dimension. Beyond that it needs to be tied to the structure or outrigged.
- Lock the casters. Every caster gets locked before anyone climbs, and nobody rides a rolling scaffold while it is being moved — clear the deck of people and loose tools, roll it, re-lock, then climb.
- Access properly. Climb the built-in frame rungs or a secured ladder. Do not climb the cross braces.
- Watch the weather and the wires. North Texas wind loads a tarped or screened scaffold hard. Keep the whole assembly well clear of overhead power lines.
